Wreaths and
Flowers |
The tried and true spruces and pines of the
holiday season are wonderful to work with as well as bringing a
wonderful aroma to your home at the holidays. But if you are
looking for something different this year -- welcome to the world
of berries. You can buy or make full wreaths using berries
and the vines or leaves that they grow on. They add a burst
of color to your room and a life all their own. Fresh
berries will last in decorations for at least two weeks, keeping
both their color and their shape. If you use dry berries,
they will last for months.
|
If you are lucky enough to
have berries growing wild on your property it is very easy to turn
these wonderful fruits into decorative pieces. Using green
floral wire and floral tape you can cut the berries with their
branches attached and fasten them to an existing garland.
You can use the floral wire to attach the berries to a chandelier
for added color over your table settings. Take care to avoid
using any berries that may be toxic if you have small children or
pets that could make a snack out of your decorations. On
their own or added to the traditional greens of the holidays,
berries can brighten your decorative touches this season.
|
For
a decorative touch that can remain in place long after the holiday
season, use dry flowers to add a cornucopia of color to your front
door. You can buy pre-made arrangements or just buy bunches
of dried flowers and put together your own using floral wire and
tape.
Use
ribbons or bows to hide the machinations of the wreath. Use
your imagination and let the flowers inspire you.
The
pine wreath at right is a traditional favorite. This wreath
can remain as a decorative touch throughout the winter.
Sturdy and long lasting through all types of inclement
weather. Buy as a ready made wreath or wrap your own using
scented cones and a wire wreath form available at craft and fabric
stores.
