(MS) - Kids seeming have been making holiday ornaments since the dawn of time. Parents of school-aged children have grown to expect their child to bring home a homemade ornament to hang on the tree or around the house each year.
But even if the tradition is overlooked at your child's school this holiday season, you can make your own ornaments in the comfort of home. And you don't even need to hunt down materials, as your household recycling bin and garage have some of the main ingredients you'll need.
Soda Can Snowman
1 clean and dry aluminum soda can
1 sheet of white construction paper
1 full page of newspaper
white paint
masking tape
scrap fabric
Fiberfil or quilt batting
1. Wrap the entire can in the white construction paper.
2. Using the entire page of your newspaper, form it into a ball and, using the masking tape, tape it to the top of the aluminum can. This will form the head of the snowman. Cover the rest of the newspaper with masking tape.
3. Paint the taped newspaper ball with the white paint and let it dry.
4. Cover the white body of your snowman with the Fiberfil.
5. Buy or make a construction paper hat for your snowman. Add jiggle eyes and an orange pom-pom for the nose. Cut a scarf using your scrap fabric. If possible, use pinking shears and cut approximately 20 inches long and one inch wide.
6. Display your snowman or snow family around the house.
