Color Schemes

The color scheme that you choose for your table can be as varied as your menu.  The table setting above hints of the beauty of new fallen snow with its all white theme.  Beautiful white roses, white poinsettias, dried baby's breath, or for a real statement, a pot of white lilies, can all bring an elegance to your table without sacrificing the spirit of the holiday.  In fact, a white theme can serve as a canvas to highlight the delightful array of colors that your holiday menu can supply.

The setting shown at left is a mix of traditional colors on white.  Start with white linens and add color through decorative touches.  Red or green bows tied around the linen napkins at each place setting can introduce color to your white background, as well as compliment the colorful bounty of flowers used as centerpieces.  If you like the idea of keeping your flowers white, consider adding color to your table by using a mix matched set of china or colored crystal.

A traditional table with a twist.  Instead of the bright reds and greens usually seen at the holidays, consider using cranberry linens with dark forest green touches.  The table above brings a quiet, country holiday to mind with centerpieces of pine cone trees and a cranberry runner instead of a table cloth to showcase the rich colors of the natural wood table.

When considering a color scheme for your holiday table, keep the spirit of the gathering in mind. Casual or formal entertaining can benefit from trying something a little different this year.  Also reflect on the ambience of the room where your guests will be dining.  A country table like the one above may look out of place in a contemporary dining room.  Whatever you choose as a color scheme remember that the holidays can be more than just Santa red and evergreen.  Enjoy!
