A Small Miracle: A Poem for Chanukah
by Le'ah Naor from her book Chag Li, published by Massada

Everyday a small miracle happens to me,
everyday a small miracle happens to me.
If someone does not believe me let him come.
Because I had a small miracle
and a small miracle happened to me.
-Where?
-Here!

I opened the door and the sun was out
and it smiled and asked to come in.
Outside three tulips blossomed
and two cyclamens and lots of dandelions
and it was a miracle.

Everyday a small miracle happens to me ...
A small bird suddenly flew to me
and ate a kernel from my hand,
she chirped and hopped about in great joy,
and left a feather and flew away,
and that is another miracle.
Everyday a small miracle happens to me ...
Yesterday Ya'eli came to see me,
she stayed with me until six o'clock,
she said she needed the math homework,
but we both knew it was not true
and that is my miracle.
Everyday a small miracle happens to me ...
I planted an onion and a radish in the garden,
it rained on them yesterday.
Today they made new green leaves
so shy, so funny,
and that is a pretty big miracle.
Everyday a small miracle happens to me.
